Helping Haiti

January 19th, 2010

In times of great tragedy, it is heartwarming to see so many people come together to assist in the Haiti recovery efforts. However, what is absolutely disheartening is donating to charities where the victims don’t receive any of these benefits.  If you’re looking to help Haiti and unsure how best to help, Cool Mom Picks has put together this helpful list.

VOTE for the Center for the Pacific Asian Family!

January 14th, 2010

The Center for the Pacific Asian Family (CPAF) has made it to the final round of the Chase Community Giving Contest to win $1,000,000 and they need your help! Check out their powerful video & facebook page here to see how much the $1,000,000 would benefit them in funding a multi-lingual call center to support emergency domestic violence shelters and rape crisis centers.  With one woman beaten every 15 seconds in our country, it is so important that women and children have the resources available to seek a better and safer life.  Voting begins tonight!

Plum Finds: Lumalum Portraits

January 13th, 2010

Looking for a cool new way to decorate the kids’ rooms?  Try these awesome portraits from Lumalum.com.  They’re definitely a fresh take on some of your favorite pop culture icons such as Lucy, Sonny & Cher, Mr. T and Marilyn Manson!  And if the kids complain that they don’t know who the heck these people are, that’s an even better reason to swipe them for your own room! :)

Plum Finds: Frazier & Wing Mobiles

January 10th, 2010

Some of our fave bloggers like Cool Mom Picks, Giddy Giddy Blog and Lushlee are already head over heels for Frazier & Wing Mobiles and we can definitely see what the fuss is all about!  These handmade mobiles are made from colorful cardstock cut into various shapes and strung on clear thread. Simple, yet simply breathtaking, and can be hung in any room in the house. There are still some mobiles from the 2009 collection available but we can’t wait to see what 2010 brings from this talented artist!

Support Local Farms, Get Fresh Produce

January 6th, 2010

Sounds simple right?  It really IS that easy to get fresh, quality organic produce as often as weekly!  Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) is a new idea in farming where a community of individuals pledge support to a local farming operation so that the farmland essentially becomes the community’s farm.  The South Central Farmer’s Cooperative grows all of its’ produce in Bakersfield and community members from Los Angeles travel there each week to clean, harvest and plant the produce.  For as little as $15 per box, you can bring the farm to the city.

Spring ‘10 Preview

January 2nd, 2010

Happy New Year!  As we start 2010, we are so excited to bring some great new brands into the Plum Denim mix. Knuckleheads is a Canada-based family business that focuses on quality clothing that moms & kids will love, and dads will envy!  In fact, they were just recently awarded the 2009 Earnie Award for Best Boys Sportswear…need we say more??  Last season, we brought in Tokidoki Bambino for the little ones, and for this season, we’re bringing in its’ funky fresh older sister, Tokidoki Girl!  Spring deliveries begin arriving this month so make sure to sign up for our mailing list to be the first to know!
